Join GAPIMNY, Q-Wave, API Rainbow Parents, Womankind, and Poongmul Movement Builders in this year’s 49th Pride March on Sunday June 24th, 2018. The first LGBT Pride March was held in 1970 on the first anniversary of the Stonewall Riots—we must continue to recognize this event as a March until complete and full equality has been achieved for ALL LGBT people across all intersections of marginalized identities.
This year’s number of marchers is strictly limited, with wristbands REQUIRED before entering the staging area to march. We have 200 wristbands available, that will be distributed on a first come first serve basis. It should be noted that NYPD representatives confirmed that there will be no arrests made because people are not wearing wristbands. [(However, we also know that last year demonstrators were arrested at HOP’s request for “trespassing.” Therefore, we do not completely discount the possibility of arrest.)]
We will be posting the exact location to meet and pick-up wristbands on this Facebook event the day of the march, though prepare to be around the staging area by 12:00pm to receive your wristband. At this location, you will receive a wristband from Ty Matsunaga (917-828-5680) – please text them to coordinate the day of.
When traveling to the staging area, please be aware that 7th Avenue will be CLOSED after 10:30am.
The Pride March route is significantly different this year – for more information please visit the official NYC Pride website.
