RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to attending Steering Committee meetings, researching, writing, and submitting grant proposals, organizing fundraising events, coordinating donation appeals.

WHY DO YOU CONTINUE TO WORK IN GAPIMNY? I strongly believe in the mission and work of the organization. I love the fact that we support each other professionally, culturally, politically, and socially.

Alain Dang is a Policy Analyst at the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Policy Institute in New York City. The Policy Institute is a think tank dedicated to research, policy analysis and strategy development to advance greater understanding and equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. He recently co-authored, Black Same-Sex Households in the United States: A Report from the 2000 Census, and, Asian Pacific American Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender People: A Community Portrait. His autobiographical chapter was published in Kevin Kumashiro's, Restoried Selves: Autobiographies of Queer Asian/Pacific American Activists. A long-time activist, he spearheaded an anti-sweatshop campaign as a student that resulted in the University of California adopting a code of conduct for its trademark licensees. Last year he played a central role in the campaign to hold Details Magazine accountable for its "Gay or Asian?" feature. He currently serves as Political Chair for Gay Asian & Pacific Islander Men of New York (GAPIMNY) and Coalition Manager for Asian Equality. Originally from Cupertino, CA, he holds a B.A. in Social Ecology from U.C. Irvine and a M.A. in Urban Planning from U.C.L.A.
