GAPIMNY Anti-Harassment Policy:
GAPIMNY is committed to an environment and community of mutual respect
that is positive, healthy and supportive.
Harassment, including but not limited to sexual harassment, in any manner
or form will not be tolerated, nor will GAPIMNY tolerate any acts of
retaliation against anyone who reports harassment. Reports of harassment
will be approached with professionalism, confidentiality, and timeliness.
This applies for all GAPIMNY members and attendees at GAPIMNY sponsored
events (including events of other groups that GAPIMNY co-sponsors).
1. The term “harassment” includes, but is not limited to:
a. Unwelcome slurs,
jokes, verbal, graphic or physical conduct relating to an individual’s
race/ethnicity, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity
or expression, socioeconomic status, age, national origin, immigrant
status, English proficiency, accent, health, or disability.
b. Verbal, physical, or graphic behavior where such conduct interferes
with an individual’s performance or creates an intimidating,
hostile or offensive environment.
2. Additionally,
“sexual harassment” consists of:
a. Unwelcome sexual
advances, requests for sexual favors, or any other verbal, physical,
or graphic conduct of a sexual nature where such conduct may be considered
harassment.
Procedures for
dealing with harassment:
- The aggrieved
person can and should report the incident or make a complaint to any
GAPIMNY Steering Committee member
as soon after the incident as possible.
- An ad hoc Harassment
Subcommittee will be formed to investigate the matter, assess the
situation, and take appropriate action.
a. Actions can
include no action, referring the incident to outside mediation,
facilitated discussion, disciplinary action, or other actions as
deemed appropriate.
b. Disciplinary
actions can include verbal and written warnings, removal from the
listserv, revocation of membership, and denial of admission to GAPIMNY
events.
At all times, confidentiality will be preserved and respected.
Adopted by the GAPIMNY Steering Committee on August 5, 2005.
