Join us as we explore media representation, the struggle for equality, and role of activism for LGBT Asian Americans.
A wine & cheese reception will take place after the event.

Cindi Creager, National News Director, Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation
Dennis Chin, Downetime Steering Committee, GAPMINY’s young adult group

Description:
How many prominent Asian characters in the media can you remember to name from 10 years ago? How about gay characters? Or try this: characters who are gay and Asian?
Within a decade both the Asian community and the gay community have made strides in becoming more visible in American mass media. Many of us now follow the travails of Jin and Sun on that mysterious island of “Lost, and some of us even got a little verklempt when Tommy, one of the “Brothers and Sisters, proposed to his boyfriend, Scotty. But a question begs to be asked: how many of us see ourselves in Hiro Nakamura or in Jack McFarland?
Join us and let’s explore how we see the current media portrayals of Asians and of gays, and how those images are influencing us in shaping our own image.
Meeting Cost: $5 General Admission ; $2 for Members (all proceeds go towards cost of operations; exp. LGBT Center Room Rental, Food, etc.)
